Laser Treatment for Nail Fungus

Nail fungus is a naturally occurring organism that breeds in warm, moist conditions such as shower floors where it is often contracted. Once infected, toenails become brittle, thick, and discolored and it is believed that the condition affects at least 10% of the U.S. population. It is frequently an embarrassing condition that can impact quality of life for many patients and may present serious health concerns for diabetics and those with compromised immune systems.

PRIMERA LASER TREATMENTS FOR NAIL FUNGUS

Primera Laser Treatment Nail FungusThe physicians at Primera Foot & Ankle Centers have performed hundreds of laser procedures for onychomycosis (nail fungus) and have achieved excellent results in even some of the most severe cases. We are certified in laser therapy and we currently use the most advanced FDA cleared lasers now available for treatment of nail fungus infections, the PinPointe Foot Laser and Cutera Laser Genesis. Laser treatment for toenail fungus has been clinically proven, safe and effective, posing none of the risks and harmful side effects of oral anti-fungal medications.

THE TREATMENT PROCESS

Our innovative laser treatment for toenail fungus was uniquely devised by our physicians based on their experience with hundreds of patients. The process includes an initial 30 minute treatment session with follow-up laser treatments every monthly. Every case is different, however, we recommend a minimum of 4-6 continuous laser treatments for our patients. Nail laser treatment of both feet is recommended for optimal results as it may help to avoid cross contamination. The treatment is typically painless, but you may experience a sensation of warmth from the laser. The laser works by penetrating the nail plate to destroy the fungus in the nail bed. Results are seen as the new nail begins to grow out from the root. It usually takes nine months to a year for a new healthy nail to grow out completely.

PREPARATION AND POST PROCEDURE

Fiore Rx PropenTo prepare for the procedure, all nail polish and decorations must be removed. Following treatment, you may immediately return to your normal activities. Nail polish may be applied as desired and we recommend the Enhanced Nail polish by Fiore Rx. The Fiore Rx Antifungal Propen is an excellent adjunct to the laser therapy when battling nail fungus. Additional at home care will be discussed at your initial consultation and recommendations will be made to help prevent future recurrence.
